Confucius Institute Day

The Confucius Institute hosts Confucius Institute Day under theme, China Kaleidoscope 3.

Look out for activities including:

  • Chinese Papercutting
  • Chinese Calligraphy
  • Chinese Knot Making
  • Tai Chi Fan
  • And a special Tea Ceremony – During this event, participants will learn about Chinese tea culture, including its history, the various tea categories and the benefits of drinking tea. Participants will also have the chance to sample different types of Chinese tea such as green tea, red tea, Oolong tea and Jasmine tea. 

The tea ceremony with facilitator Li Yanxin takes place as follows:

  • Session 1 – 2 to 2.20pm
  • Session 2 – 2.30 to 2.50pm
  • Session 3 – 3 to 3.20pm

About the Confucius Institute

The University of the West Indies (UWI) established a Confucius Institute in Trinidad and Tobago on October 23, 2013. On that date, the Confucius Institute (CI) at The University of the West Indies St. Augustine Campus became one of over 400 of these non-profit public institutions established by the Office of Chinese Language Council International (HANBAN) for the promotion of Chinese language and culture. The global network of Confucius Institutes celebrates its 15th anniversary this year.

The local Confucius Institute will also recognise its 6th anniversary on local soil with Confucius Institute Day on Friday 27th September, 2019.
