Matriculation and Welcome Ceremony

All first-year students are invited to attend their Matriculation & Welcome Ceremony.

What is Matriculation?

Matriculation is the ceremony that formally recognises first-year students as members of the academic community and the University. The Matriculation & Welcome Ceremony is also hosted by other UWI Campuses.

The event takes place on Wednesday September 18 at 5pm at The UWI Sports & Physical Education Centre (SPEC).

Please note: All classes for first-year students that are scheduled between 2pm and 7pm on this date will be re-scheduled. Please visit your Faculty office for more information.

All first-year students are required to attend this Ceremony. Each student is allowed one (1) guest. Confirm your attendance by downloading the form here.

About Matriculation

What happens at Matriculation?

At Matriculation all first-year students sign the University register, recite the academic vow and are recognised as members of the academic committee by the Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Is there a dress code for Matriculation?

Yes there is.

  • LADIES: White blouses or shirts and black skirts/trousers
  • GENTS: White shirt and tie or shirt-jac, black trousers
  • Jeans are not permitted.
