The Cultural Studies Society and the UWI Film Crew host The Black Godfather Screening

The Cultural Studies Society (CSS) is collaborating with the UWI Film crew hosts a screening of the Netflix documentary, The Black Godfather.

The screening, and the post showing panel discussion takes place on September 27 from 5pm at the Film Studies building on Carmody Road.

The event is also being held to assist the Film Unit's Year III students to raise funds to offset the costs incurred by their third-year Capstone project. Funds raised from the refreshment sales go directly to this effort.

About the Black Godfather

This documentary, "The Black Godfather", highlights the life and work of Clarence Avant as a behind-the-scenes powerhouse negotiator in an industry bent on giving no quarter to him, nor people like him. It speaks to making space against all odds, and providing access to some of the most famous entertainers and politicians that the world has ever seen; from Barack Obama to Snoop Dogg. The film opens the conversation on justice, spheres of influence and power as it relates to combating inequality.

The CSS is a registered Guild of Students club that is mandated to provide a forum for scholarly dialogue in the discipline of Cultural Studies, while participating in local, public and community engagement about the role and focus of Cultural Studies as a discipline.
