About the Book

The book is one of the outputs of a Research and Development Fund Project of the UWI, St Augustine granted to the Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS) in 2015. The IGDS partnered with the Department of Social work and the project was jointly led by Professor Patricia Mohammed and Dr Cheryl Ann Boodram drawing in a range of researchers and graduate students who participated in the three-year project of research and outreach.

The outcomes of research and workshop interventions with public and private institutions in Trinidad and Tobago demonstrated the need for us to look closely at  the changing demographic shifts in our population. Many persons are living longer lives now  and this has impacted on considerations such as the length of our working life, planning for retirement and dependencies on a greater care economy. The book is interdisciplinary in its content and is accessible reading for a wide range of audiences. It provides information to those seeking knowledge about dementia, ageing, the future of work,  as well as those needing to find answers on the issues they are contending with on work and caring fronts. It hopes to be a change agent for policies and practices towards healthier lifestyles and humane attitudes to our ageing populations.

The launch is being chaired by Christine Randle, Managing Director of Ian Randle Publishers, will be open regionally and internationally to those who wish to join in and will feature remarks by some of the contributors of the book engaging Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad in a cross regional conversation, and a book review and comment by Professor Sterling Frost, Deputy Chief Executive Officer - Operations and Administration of the First Citizens Group and Professor of Practice at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine.
