Tune in on July 22 from 10:00am.

Registration details to follow.

Objectives

  • To explore the tenets of evidence-informed policy making in education and its utility in Trinidad and Tobago
  • To identify emerging, promising and best practices for policy in school organisation, pedagogy and student support
  • To explore how these policies and strategies can be implemented in post pandemic Trinidad and Tobago.

 Background

Small Island Developing States like Trinidad and Tobago do not have robust policymaking mechanisms.  Even though the number of public consultations have increased, education policy is still dominated by the values of a few elites among technocrats and politicians, and undeclared policy actors. Some speak of grassroots policymaking with admiration, but in a society where evidence for common practice is in short supply, how do we guarantee our policy making futures, post pandemic and beyond?

This Virtual Symposium explores policy and policymaking to make our school system better in the post-pandemic period. Presenters will explore the contentious topic of evidence-informed policy and gather the best ideas from the ‘what works movement’ for school organization and administration, pedagogical renewal, and student support. A format meant to generate debate and discussion and a variety of views will be used. Evidence-informed policy requires a successful combination or research and participation since there are several types of evidence.
