The Evolution of Spanish in Trinidad and Tobago

Event Date(s): 11/11/2021

The Spanish Club of UWI has teamed up with the UWI Linguistics Society to present a seminar titled "The Evolution of Spanish in Trinidad and Tobago: A linguistic battle of our past, present and future" on Thursday, November 11 at 1:30 pm.

Our very own Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics lecturer Paola Palma will give us a taste of the history of Spanish in Trinidad and Tobago before we get into the debate about the future and whether or not Spanish has the potential to gain official language status in T&T. The discussion will be led by the opinions of past and present linguistics and foreign language students Sarah Brito and Jake Salloum, respectively. Anyone interested in attending is asked to register beforehand: https://forms.gle/3utUjrEBcWL9ZFPB8
