Data Protection at the University of the West Indies

Event Date(s): 28/01/2022

On Friday, January 28, The UWI joins the international community in commemorating Data Protection Day.

The day will be devoted to increasing awareness about the rights to personal data protection and privacy, as well as our University’s commitment to protecting the personal data of our stakeholders as articulated in The UWI Data Protection Policy.

There is now a fairly new and ever increasing global movement that insists organisations take the matter of ensuring the privacy of information under their management seriously. Governments have joined the movement and have been enacting legislation to ensure privacy. In fact, all campus countries, as well as most of the contributing countries, have enacted Data Protection legislation.

The UWI’s Data Protection Policy is a positive response to the emerging paradigm. This session on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 11 a.m., hosted by WIGUT (Jamaica), is being presented to inform members of the community about what the University is doing, how these activities will affect them, and the responsibilities of every person
