Hosting and Managing the Carnival Experience in Trinidad and Tobago in 2022 and Beyond

The Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) presents Hosting and Managing the Carnival Experience in Trinidad and Tobago in 2022 and Beyond

This webinar seeks to provide formal information on Trinidad’s Carnival Brand and its continued evolution locally, regionally and globally. The COVID-19 Pandemic has upset equilibria associated with the Trinidad Carnival Brand and novel insights based on sober judgement are deemed essential to resuscitate, kick-start, and sustain the full range of festivities especially in the Mecca of the Festival. Trinidad Carnival has to prevail given its contribution to sustained livelihoods for individuals and families, its historico-cultural significance, and its capacity to facilitate greater equity in the distribution of household wealth and increase opportunities to reverse the economic ills associated with the onset of COVID-19. Notwithstanding the primacy associated with productivity, income generation, and revenue streams associated, in the interest of being more universalistic, sober assessments are needed and such assessments ought to be best served coming from commentators in academic and scientific communities and bringing insights that mix and combine with those emerging from other public commentators and providing a broader vision for critical decision-makers with administrative clout over the efforts to resuscitate, kick-start, sustain, and direct the Trinidad Brand Carnival as a local, regional, and global product in 2022 and beyond. This session provides the opportunity for discussions and food for thought in the face of advancing economic fortunes in the presence of epidemiological risks.
