The UWI St. Augustine Campus invites you to attend the Distinguished Open Lecture by Professor Emerita Alma Harris, Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy, on the topic Future-proofing Education: What's next?
This lecture takes place on Sunday 13th March, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.
Abstract: This lecture will consider the impact of COVID 19 on education systems, around the world, with the prime aim of identifying the possibilities and priorities for education systems in the future. It will highlight trends in the responses to COVID and the educational issues that have been generated because of the pandemic. It will consider 'what's next' for education systems, as they emerge from challenging times, globally. The lecture will highlight what matters most for those leading and working within education systems, as well as what is important to future proof the learning of young people in our schools, both now and in the future.
Biography: Dr Alma Harris, FAcSS, FLSW, FRSA, is an Emeritus Professor at Swansea University, Wales. She is internationally known for her research and writing on school leadership and system improvement. Professor Harris has written extensively on middle leadership and distributed leadership in schools. Professor Harris is a consultant to the World Bank and is Past President of the International Congress for School Effectiveness She is committed to equity and excellence in education. Her latest book System Recall-Leading for Equity and Excellence in Education was published by Corwin in 2020. Professor Harris is an International Education Adviser to the First Minister and Deputy First Minister of Scotland. Professor Harris has recently been elected to serve on the Council of the Learned Society Wales. She was a member of the Independent Review of Qualifications 2020 in Wales. Most recently she was the Chair of an Independent Review of Leadership for Welsh Government.
