About the speaker: Gerd Michael Dembowski is the Senior Diversity & Anti-Discrimination Manager at FIFA in Zurich (Switzerland), a German sociologist, sports scientist, social worker and publisher of various essays and books on social fan culture and social responsibility with a view to (anti-)discrimination, violence and hooliganism, social minorities and conflict mediation. His current work focuses on diversity and anti-discrimination at FIFA competitions, at national football associations and at FIFA as an organisation.

Dembowski is mainly responsible for the FIFA Good Practice Guide on Diversity and Anti-Discrimination.

Gerd Dembowski is also an appointed member of the German Academy for Football Culture and represents FIFA in the working group of the Daniel Nivel Foundation to support fans’ dialogue and the prevention of violence in French and German football.

Before joining FIFA he was an anti-discrimination and football fan activist since 1993, as well as a co-founder of the Fare network, one of the most renowned non-governmental umbrella organisations working against discrimination in European football and beyond.

Related to the club and police on one side and organised fan groups on the other, Dembowski was involved in conflict mediation projects with the German football Bundesliga clubs Borussia Dortmund, 1. FC Cologne and Hannover 96.
