The Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) has embarked on a project that aims to showcase the achievements and expertise of its Fellows. This series continues featuring Dr. Robert Stewart, Full-Time Research Fellow at SALISES.
Dr. Robert Stewart has a PhD in Economic Development Policy, from the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. He has been the recipient of several academic scholarships, namely: Eric Williams Memorial Scholarship (from the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago), Canada-CARICOM Leadership Scholarships Program (University of New Brunswick, NB, Canada), and ERASMUS+ International (University of Graz, Austria). His previous research endeavours have been in the areas of financial development, banking stability, and regulatory capital administration with academic publications in journals such as Empirical Economics, Journal of Economic Assymetries, Journal of Economics and Business, and Journal of Financial Regulation and Compliance.
More recently, Robert’s research interests have been engaged with climate finance, examining financial policies that can mobilize financial capital towards low-carbon economic development. Currently, he is examining the roles of Green Investment Banks (GIBs) as streamlined development financing entities used to mobilize private financing towards low-carbon economic activity in both developed and developing economies.
Robert has also spent several years working in the financial sector of Trinidad and Tobago and holds a PRM (professional risk manager) designation.
