Bridging Universities to Industries

Event Date(s): 09/12/2022

Location: Virtual

The OACPS Research and Innovation programme will hold a debate on Bridging Universities to Industries on Friday December 9. Save the date and join them!

Unlocking innovation to accelerate sustainable development requires a good quadruple-helix collaboration, between industry, government, academia, and society. Building partnerships between industry and academia remains challenging in Africa, as the continent is lacking knowledge exchange and technology transfer capabilities.

The webinar will address three questions:

• What do we know about university-industry linkages in Africa?

• How to enhance these links through policy-making?

• What are the best practices for successful collaborations?

Background

As our University pushes into the second phase of the Triple A Strategy – the “Revenue Revolution” – acquiring grant funding from organisations such as the EU-OACPS generates revenue. But beyond that such grants create avenues for fostering international collaboration and knowledge sharing, and provide exposure for our researchers to outcomes of innovation and research from elsewhere.

At the start of 2021, UWI through the St. Augustine Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (STACIE) was awarded four-year grant funding by EU-OACPS for “Harnessing Innovative Technologies to Support Resilient Settlements on the Coastal Zones of the Caribbean”. To support this grant, the OACPS extends opportunities for UWI participation in seminars, workshops and other forums for knowledge capture and capacity building. These contribute to our institutional development.
