On Wednesday November 23, 2022, the Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS) will commemorate the signing of an MOU and a new partnership with The Bankers Association of Trinidad & Tobago (BATT). This partnership will focus on expanding evidence-based advocacy to combat the continuing problem of child sexual abuse and gender-based violence.
The featured speaker at this launch event will be Prof Rhoda Reddock, who is the original lead researcher of the Break the Silence research project and campaign to end child sexual abuse in Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. The work that will be undertaken by IGDS in partnership with BATT, will be a new phase in the work that has been done by Prof Reddock.
At this event the MOU Oversight Committee with be officially appointed and introduced. The committee will be made up of a number of partner agencies from State, Civil Society, International Agencies, Corporate Sector and Researchers/Scholars involved in protecting the rights of children. These include:
· The Oversight Committee will comprise a maximum of ten (10) members with at least one representative from each of the following organizations:
o The Bankers Association of Trinidad & Tobago
o The Children’s Authority of Trinidad & Tobago / Ministry of Education Student Support Services
o A relevant civil society actor / organization
o UWI Social Work Department / Behavioural Sciences
o National Family Services Division, Ministry of Social Development and Family
o United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF)
o The BTS Network
o The Institute for Gender and Development Studies
o Advisor to the Committee - Prof Rhoda Reddock
At this event the IGDS will also launch their Bilingual Toolkit to guide social workers, facilitators and other professionals involved in building capacity of relevant professionals involved in work against child sexual abuse.
This milestone event will take place on Wednesday November 23 from 2 p.m. at the Daaga Auditorium, The UWI St. Augustine.
