The Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS) presents a Virtual Lunchtime Seminar on the topic A Safe Space to Learn with Nadine Lewis-Agard, Human and Social Development Consultant on Wednesday January 11, 2023 from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m.

This seminar will explore how some students may experience trauma in classrooms and the concept of a safe space for all persons involved in education and learning, especially children and children who have experienced trauma. The seminar will also consider elements needed to create safe learning environments for students and teachers.
Nadine Lewis-Agard is a Human and Social Development Consultant with over twenty-five years of experience working on programme management, project implementation and social vulnerability issues. Her professional career began in Social Work as one of the architects of the Foster Care System for Trinidad and Tobago. She then became an advocate for children’s rights and the deinstitutionalisation of children in care. Her work with the State continued as an Advisor to the first Minister of Gender, Youth and Child Development. She is one of the contributors to the IGDS’s Break the Silence Bilingual Toolkit 2022 for work with Spanish-speaking migrants. Ms Lewis-Agard has been a committed advocate for creating safe spaces for young people to explore difficult conversations.
