Let's introduce you to the St. Augustine finalists:
Sherisse Bideshi
Talent: Aerial Hoop (Lyra)
Sherisse Bideshi is a student at The UWI, St Augustine Campus. She excels in the Aerial Hoop, also known as Lyra, a discipline she has been dedicated to for five years. Her performance combines strength, flexibility, and grace, offering a unique and captivating medium for creative expression.
Suzette Edwards
Talent: Theatre Arts
Suzette Edwards, a student in the Faculty of Humanities in Education at The UWI, St. Augustine Campus, employs theatre arts as a form of drama therapy to rehabilitate and reform young minds. With over 36 years of experience in the creative and performing arts, she is the founder and artistic director of Maloney Young Leaders, a youth group that promotes young talent in the Maloney Gardens community.
Jerod Griffith
Talent: Voice
Jerod Griffith, a student in the Faculty of Engineering at The UWI, St. Augustine Campus, is passionate about expressing himself through song. With a background in singing from childhood, he eagerly looks forward to sharing his musical talents with the world.
Shimiah Lewis
Talent: Performance Art
Shimiah Lewis, a graduate of The UWI, St. Augustine Campus, boasts an impressive track record in the performing arts, including being the 2013 recipient of the National Youth award in the field of performing arts. She actively engages in the art of spoken word poetry and works alongside the 2 Cents Movement to aid in social awareness and development. Her goal is to redefine the meaning of the word "ghetto," removing its stereotype of obscenity and transforming it into a word that conveys pride and success.
Joel Philip
Talent: Performance Art (Spoken Word)
Joel Philip embarked on his spoken word journey in June 2020, before entering The UWI, St. Augustine Campus to pursue a BSc in Accounting (Special). Since then, he has gained significant recognition in the field of poetry and was a finalist in the 2022 UWI Got Talent competition. Joel aims to utilize this platform to showcase the skills and talents he has developed both prior to and during his time at the University.
Isaiah Stokes
Talent: Performance Art (Jump Rope)
Isaiah Stokes, a proud Faculty of Social Sciences student at The UWI, St. Augustine Campus, is introducing an element of fun and excitement to all UWI campuses through his diverse jump rope abilities. He has been engaged in this talent for over 15 years, starting at the primary school level and representing Trinidad and Tobago in various world competitions. His most memorable UWI experience was during the 2022 Guild Fest, where he found a booth with a rope and displayed his skills to the excitement and support of several students.
