Join The Lancet for The Small Island Developing States virtual launch of The Lancet Countdown 2023 Report on November 21, 2023, at 3:00 p.m.
The 2023 Report of the Lancet Countdown draws on the expertise of 114 climate and health scientists, engineers, economists, political scientists, public health professionals, and doctors from 52 research institutions and UN agencies from around the world to provide its most up-to-date and comprehensive assessment yet of the state of health and climate change globally. It will be launched ahead of the 28th UN Conference of the Parties (COP28).
Along with several regions worldwide, small island developing states are experiencing unprecedented impacts associated with global temperature rise. The Lancet Countdown Regional Centre for Small Island Developing States will present these findings by focusing on what they mean for the small islands that bear the brunt of the climate burden. A team of panellists will discuss the impacts of heatwaves and observations of prolonged “summers” on human physiology, more tactile imagery of the adaptive interventions several countries or communities have incorporated in monitoring and policies to adjust to current and future temperature scenarios for SIDS.
