The UWI-HEU Committee for Caribbean Research on Social Security (CCROSS) invites you to attend its webinar, “Addressing Social Security Reform in the Caribbean: The Issue of Good Governance” on Friday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
Globally, Social Security Organisations (SSOs) have experienced several challenges, among these is the need for reform. SSOs in the Caribbean and around the world are faced with the realities of population ageing, declining fertility rates, increasing life expectancy, increasing benefit outflows, and declining contribution inflows. These have all combined to threaten the sustainability of systems.
Amid the ongoing challenges faced by social security organizations, particularly in the Caribbean, the need for reform has become increasingly apparent. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 2016 underscored that previous reforms offered only temporary solutions to the financial strains on pension schemes. Considering this, the focus has shifted towards the crucial role and value of good governance in driving pension reform.
