The University of the West Indies, Health Economics Unit (HEU) will launch the construction of its new Centre and Conference Facilities on Thursday May 8, 2008 at 10:00 a.m at the building site located at 25A Warner Street, St. Augustine. This landmark occasion signifies the achievement of another important milestone for the HEU.
Established in 1995, the HEU has contributed in the areas of research, training and technical policy support at various levels of society in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean region. Its work is in health economics and related areas, including health financing, poverty, health and sustainable development, equity, health policy and health administration. The construction of these facilities comes at a time when the HEU has been awarded Centre status within The University of the West Indies, a transition that brings with it greater recognition and many expectations.
The feature address will be delivered by the Coordinator of the Health Economics Unit, Professor Karl Theodore. Dr. Hamid Ghany, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences will be the Master of Ceremonies and our Campus Principal, Professor Clement Sankat will deliver the welcome remarks. Other key speakers include:
