The Department of Management Studies in collaboration with the International Centre for Sports Studies present a Sports Management Public Lecture on the topic Volunteers: The Heartbeat of Sports Events. The featured speaker will be Ms Amra Kubat, FIFA Volunteer Programme Coordinator

More on Featured Speaker: Ms Amra Kubat
Ms Kubat’s career in sport started at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 in Canada, where she was a volunteer. Since then, she has continued to volunteer and work in the sports industry.
In 2021, she graduated from the FIFA Master - International Master (MA) in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport organised by the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES).
She joined the Volunteer Management Department at FIFA in August 2022 as the Volunteer Coordinator where she looks after the communications and engagement initiatives. Additionally, she supports local organising committees and local FIFA entities deliver volunteer programmes at FIFA tournaments.
More on the Lecture
The lecture will focus on building and managing the volunteer journey from a FIFA perspective. It will look at understanding the importance of managing volunteers and how they bring value to the sporting event. Additionally, discussing the entire process from planning, recruiting, assigning, training and rewarding or recognising the volunteers, along with engagement and retention strategies within the context of the entire journey.
The objective will be on how to develop a programme for volunteers specific to the event so that all persons can enjoy the entire experience from start to finish.
The lecture will cover the areas:
- Definition of volunteer (volunteer defined by FIFA)
- Motivation: What motivates persons to volunteer for sporting events
- The barriers preventing persons wanting to volunteer
- Obligations of the organisers towards volunteers as well as the volunteers towards the organisation
- The different volunteer roles at FIFA events and how these roles are defined by FIFA
