Event Date(s): 25/04/2025 - 26/04/2025
Location: Winnifred Atwell Auditorium, Queen's Hall
The Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA) in collaboration with the Malik Folk Performing Company invites you to the staging of the 2025 annual student theatre production titled On The Line.
This year’s production returns to the Winnifred Atwell Auditorium of Queens Hall in Port of Spain for two nights, Friday 25 and Saturday 26 April, 2025 at 7 pm. A special schools’ matinee will be held on Saturday 26 @ 2:00 p.m. for school groups.
On the Line creates space for critical conversations by examining the past and present through theatre. At its core is “Eric the Musical” by Zeno Obi Constance, a biographical calypso musical on the life and contributions of Dr. Eric Williams. The Musical sets the stage for reflection on contemporary issues and is complemented by five bold, original 10-minute plays by students enrolled in the Production II course at the Department of Creative and Festival Arts.
Each script tackles pressing social themes:
-The struggles of migration - “Nowhere to Call Home” by Tevin Douglas
-Sharp political satire - “D Parliament Up in Smokes” by Abigail Seaforth-Leslie
-The pursuit of justice - “In Her Hands” by Brianna Worme
-The complexities of cultural identity - “Where Two Worlds Meet” by Azaria Halls
-The commercialization of mas intertwined with self-discovery - “The Pieces of Me That Don’t Belong” by Nyssa Bailey
By placing these works in conversation with each other, On the Line challenges audiences to reflect, engage and interrogate the narratives that shape our society.
Tickets are $100 for adults and $80 for students.
Teachers and student groups pay $60 each for the Matinee.
Tickets can be purchased at the DCFA, Gordon Street, St Augustine or at the Queen’s Hall Box Office.
