The Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Economics, invites you to participate in the 2025 COTE Youth Events Essay Writing Competition. This year’s theme is “Pathways to Sustainable Growth and Development – Radical Innovative Thinking and Sustainable Practices.”
Who can participate?
- Secondary Schools: 1000–1200 words
Topic: Sustainable Agricultural Practices and Food Security for Small-Island Developing States (SIDS) of the Caribbean.
- Tertiary Institutions (Undergraduate): 1200–1500 words
Topic: Explore the linkages between Food Security, Climate and Health in Small-Island Developing States (SIDS).
How to enter:
- Compose your essay.
- Place your School/University/Department stamp on the copy.
- Email your essay to uwi.cote@gmail.com by midnight, Friday 20th June, 2025.
Additional guidelines:
- Times New Roman font size 12, 1.5 line spacing.
- Document format: Google Doc or Word Doc.
- Use valid statistics and data (no Wikipedia).
- Analytical skills and original work are required.
- Plagiarism, including the use of AI, will not be tolerated.
- Include references and bibliography.
- Cover page must have:
o Student’s Name
o Teacher’s Name (secondary schools)
o School/Institution Name
o Class/Department/Faculty
o Student’s email and telephone number
Winners will be presented with their prizes at the Debate Finals on Thursday 26th June, 2025. The top three essays will be featured in the Economics Society of UWI Newsletter.
