About the Webinar

As the Caribbean continues to face increasingly severe climate-related hazards, the need for proactive and resilient disaster management strategies has never been more urgent. The recent impact of Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica underscores the region’s vulnerability and the necessity of coordinated response efforts.

This session will highlight how transportation - often underestimated - is a decisive factor in enabling evacuation, mobilizing emergency personnel and delivering essential supplies. Moving beyond theory, the webinar will explore practical planning tools, policy requirements and region-specific strategies to strengthen transportation resilience as a core element of disaster preparedness and response.

Featured Speakers

-       Ronald Jackson – Head of Disaster Risk Reduction, UNDP Switzerland

-       Leonard Francis – Chief Executive Officer, NEPA Jamaica

-       Dr. Rae Furlonge – Managing Director, LS Systems, Trinidad

Participants can expect to gain actionable insights into how transportation can serve as a proactive asset in disaster risk reduction. The session will promote regional knowledge-sharing, support the development of standardized operational procedures and help strengthen collaborative approaches to climate-driven emergencies across the Caribbean.
