Editors
Nicole Roberts is a Senior Lecturer in Spanish and Director of the Centre for Language Learning at The University of the West Indies (The UWI), St. Augustine Campus. Her research work mainly explores race thinking and identity in the Afro-Hispanic Caribbean (Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic). She has also published on study abroad, foreign/second language acquisition and social and socio-cultural factors in Hispanic culture. Her most recent publication is: Innovation in Language Learning and Teaching: The Case of the Southern Caribbean, Eds, Diego Mideros, Nicole Roberts, Beverly-Anne Carter and Hayo Reinders, Palgrave Macmillan, 2023. She is currently working on a book-length study on the works of the Afro-Puerto Rican author Mayra Santos Febres.
Janine R. Lutchman is a foreign language educator, published author, and UWI alumna from Cocorite, Trinidad and Tobago. She has extensive experience teaching Mandarin Chinese and serves as the First Examiner for Mandarin courses under the Foreign Language Requirement initiative at The UWI, St. Augustine. Her work has been featured internationally, including in CCTV’s Written in the Sky project. She has published short stories in Mandarin Chinese in the graded reader series Easy-to-Read Chinese Short Stories, Book 3 and Book 4 (Eds. April Zhang and Carlton Cash, 2023, 2024). Her research focuses on language teaching and learning, project-based learning, and education policies. She is currently publishing on Mandarin teaching in Trinidad and working on projects on foreign language study.
