UWI to Host UNESCO RAM Validation Workshop for National AI Assessment

The Office of the Campus Principal, The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus, in collaboration with UNESCO and the Ministry of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence (MPAAI), will host the UNESCO Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM) Validation Workshop on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Principal’s Salon, UWI St. Augustine.

 

This workshop forms part of Trinidad and Tobago’s National Artificial Intelligence Assessment, aimed at generating evidence-based insights to strengthen the country’s AI policy and governance framework. The RAM Validation Workshop marks a key milestone in the assessment process and will convene more than 40 invited stakeholders to validate and refine findings from UNESCO’s national consultations, identify strengths and gaps in the national AI ecosystem, and outline practical next steps toward responsible AI governance.

 

Stakeholder discussions will focus on five dimensions of AI readiness:

 

-          Legal and Regulatory

-          Technical and Infrastructural

-          Societal and Cultural

-          Scientific and Educational

-          Economic

 

Featured programme highlights

 

-          Opening Remarks are expected from Professor Rose-Marie Antoine (Pro Vice Chancellor and Campus Principal, UWI St. Augustine), Mr. Eric Falt (Director, UNESCO Regional Office for the Caribbean), and Senator the Honourable Dominic Alexander Smith (Minister of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence), along with other specially invited guests.

-          An AI Research Spotlight will showcase rapid-fire presentations from UWI scholars, highlighting regional innovation and UWI’s leadership in AI research and policy development.

-          Lead Expert: Dr. Letetia Addison, Lecturer and Researcher, UWI St. Augustine (UNESCO RAM Lead Expert for Trinidad and Tobago).
