The Institute of International Relations (IIR), The University of the West Indies warmly invites the Campus Community to attend an upcoming guest lecture exploring Brazil’s evolving democratic landscape amid growing polarization and global trends in democratic backsliding.
This session will examine the tensions between Jair Bolsonaro and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, which sharpened during and after the presidency of Donald Trump, and what Brazil’s experience reveals about wider transformations affecting democracies across the Global South and beyond.
Guest Speaker: Prof. Fabio Luis Barbosa dos Santos, renowned scholar of Latin American political economy and contemporary South American politics.
