The UWI Institute for Gender and Development Studies invites interested persons to a special Teach-In from 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026 with Professor Caroline Hossein, Associate Professor of Global Development, Canada Research Chair Tier 2, University of Toronto, and Member of the New College at the Royal Society of Canada.
Drawing on her recent publication, The Banker Ladies, Professor Hossein will explore how feminist co-operators are transforming human development through inclusive financial systems grounded in equity, collectivity, self-help and solidarity economies. The lecture examines the role of Rotating Savings and Credit Associations (ROSCAs) and highlights the work of Black women co-operators across the Caribbean, Canada, Ghana, and Ethiopia.
This engaging session will also consider the book’s wider call to action for policymakers and co-operators to recognize, support, and properly value these informal financial institutions and the women who sustain them.
Date: Thursday, March 12, 2026 Time: 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Venue: UWI Institute for Gender and Development Studies, 59 Gordon Street, St. Augustine
