Campus Biodiversity Week 2026

The Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Food and Agriculture, in collaboration with The UWI Biological Society, invites staff and students to participate in Campus Biodiversity Week 2026, a unique, campus-wide initiative dedicated to exploring and documenting our rich biodiversity.

Event Details

-          Date: 12th – 19th April 2026 (Reading Week)

-          Venue: The UWI St. Augustine Main Campus & Mt. Hope/EWMSC

About the Initiative Campus Biodiversity Week is a first-of-its-kind survey designed to uncover and celebrate the diverse species that inhabit the university environment. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to a growing biodiversity database while deepening their appreciation for the natural ecosystems that exist across campus.

Using the free iNaturalist app, participants can capture and upload observations of plants, animals and fungi, helping to build a shared scientific record of campus biodiversity.

Activities and Highlights

-          Guided nature walks

-          Hands-on biodiversity data collection using iNaturalist

-          Opportunities to engage with experts and peers

-          Prizes awarded for participation, including recognition for the highest number of species recorded

How to Get Involved Participants are encouraged to download the iNaturalist app in advance and join the project “Campus Biodiversity Week 2026.” Stay tuned to official channels for additional details and registration information.
