Sexual Assault Survivors Stand, in collaboration with The University of the West Indies Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS), invites the campus community and wider public to a panel discussion in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2026 on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the IGDS Conference Room, 59 Gordon Street, St Augustine, and will also be available online via Zoom.
Held under the theme “25 Years Stronger: Justice, Healing and Prevention: A National Conversation on Sexual Violence,” the event will reflect on the progress made over the past twenty-five years in addressing sexual violence, while examining the gaps that remain within legal, medical, psychological and social systems.
The discussion will bring together experts from the judiciary, healthcare, academia, government and civil society to explore survivor-centred responses and identify strategies for prevention, accountability and healing in the years ahead. It will also seek to strengthen collaboration among state institutions, advocacy organisations and professional practitioners who interact with survivors.
Discussion segments will include
- Looking Back – Progress Over the Past 25 Years
- Understanding Survivors’ Needs – Medical and Psychological Perspectives
- Institutional Responses and Accountability
- Moving Forward – Prevention and Cultural Change
