The campus community is invited to attend the Professorial Inaugural Lecture by Professor Sandra Reid, Professor of Public Health Psychiatry at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, on Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Teaching and Learning Complex, Lecture Theatre A1.

In this lecture, Professor Reid will examine the issue of child sexual abuse in Trinidad and Tobago, exploring how stigma, silence and socio-cultural factors have allowed it to persist despite its serious and lasting impact on mental health and wellbeing. Drawing on an action-research approach, she will share how researchers and communities worked together to better understand the problem, raise public awareness, strengthen services and contribute to legislative reform.
