The Confucius Institute, Centre for Language Learning, Faculty of Humanities and Education, invites the campus community and wider public to celebrate Confucius Institute Day 2026 on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, under the theme Bridging Cultures, Bright Future.
Confucius Institute Day is observed internationally as an opportunity to celebrate Chinese culture and promote cultural exchange. At The UWI St. Augustine Campus, this year’s celebration will transform the JFK Auditorium into an interactive cultural space where visitors can learn, participate and experience different aspects of Chinese language, traditions, arts, food and recreation.
Activities will include:
- Chinese Language and Culture: Chinese calligraphy, character evolution activities, Chinese zodiac games and the 24 Solar Terms game
- Arts and Traditions: Paper cutting, origami, Hanfu fashion try-ons, tea art and Chinese architecture
- Games and Recreation: Gomoku chess, shuttlecock competitions, chopstick challenges and other traditional games
- Performance and Heritage: Tai Chi, lion dancing, Beijing Opera mask activities and displays of Chinese heritage sites
- Food and Festival Experiences: Moon Festival traditions, mooncake culture and tastings, and Chinese tea tastings
