CETL Workshop | Active and Collaborative Teaching

Event Date(s): 07/10/2026

Location: Virtual

The Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) invites teaching staff to its online workshop, Active and Collaborative Teaching, on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Facilitated by Dr Christopher Francique, the workshop will explore practical ways to move beyond lecture-based delivery and create more engaging learning experiences through structured group work, peer learning and problem-based approaches.

Participants will experience several techniques from a learner’s perspective before considering how they can be adapted for large and small classes across disciplines. The session will also address common challenges, including uneven group participation, time management and fairly assessing collaborative work.

By the end of the workshop, participants should be better equipped to design active and collaborative learning activities, structure group work to encourage participation and accountability, and apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to support a diverse student body.
