The Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT) has worked steafastly to assure and enhance the quality of local tertiary education since its establishment in 2004. The ACTT employs various mechanisms to promote best practice in the local and regional tertiary education sectors; therefore the council has decided that in 2008 it will observe its first annual Quality Assurance Week with the theme, "Innovating Higher Education to meet National Development Needs and Global Challenges." Quality Assurance Week will be observed during the week of September 21st to 26th and is intended to sensitise the public to the importance of quality in higher education, as well as allow for a free flow of ideas among key stakeholders.
One major activity related to the week is an essay competition under the theme "The Role of Tertiary Education in the Development of the Ideal Caribbean Citizen". The essay targets students between the ages of 17-30 to solicit their views on important issues in higher education. Prizes will be awarded to the winning students and the institutions they attend will also be highlighted.
Submission deadline for the essay is Tuesday 2nd September, 2008. Completed essays-(2500-3000 words)can be emailed in pdf format to QAweek@actt.org.tt by 4:00 p.m. on the same day.
