Arts-in-Action presents ‘Gravity’

Event Date(s): 06/09/2008 - 07/09/2008

Arts-in-Action in collaboration with Pickney Productions will host a dramatic performance entitled ‘Gravity’ at the UWI Learning Resource Centre (LRC) from Saturday 6th to Sunday 7th September, 2008.

Gravity is “a one-woman show that defies gravity- suspending the stories of three women across time, bloodlines, water and worlds”. Pickney Productions, a newly formed local theatre company has the privilege of hosting this performance on Saturday 6th September at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 7th September, at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. respectfully at the Learning Resource Centre, UWI St. Augustine.

Written and performed by the versatile Tricia Collins, of Urban Ink (a Canadian production company), Gravity is described as “an exciting new collaboration of theatre and video installation that interweaves story-telling and the stitching together of myths and facts”. This engaging performance tells the story of the “kidnapping of a young girl in China to the entrapment of a ghost waterfall in Guyana, to the journey of a Canadian Engineer mending the understanding of her cultural past and the natural disasters of her émigré homeland of Guyana”.

Pickney Productions is interested in producing fresh and exciting theatre and arts experience that speak to Caribbean audiences and draw on the arts and culture of the Caribbean and its Diasporas for inspiration. As such, producing Gravity is a welcome opportunity for the new company. Working in collaboration with Pickney Productions and Arts-in-Action, the Urban Ink team will also host two one-day workshops on their Personal Legacy theatre making process.

These performances of Gravity will be in aid of raising funds for Ms. Patrice Briggs, a member of Arts-in-Action, who is preparing to read for the MA in Cross-Sectoral and Community Arts at the prestigious Goldsmiths, University of London.

Advance tickets are $125.00 and at the door $150.00. For students, NDATT members, and early birds (tickets purchased before September 1st 2008) the cost is $100.00. Tickets can be purchased at Arts-in-Action’s office.
