MEDIATION – Level Two-Building Proficiency in Mediation Practice

The Department of Behavioural Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences will offer the course ‘MEDIATION – Level Two-Building Proficiency in Mediation Practice’ from the 26th to 29th January, 2009. The classes will be held at Deane House, #1 Deane Street, St. Augustine from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the duration of the course. The cost of attendance is TT $6,000 per participant and includes lunches and refreshments.

 About the Course

Building advanced expertise in mediation is the foundation for successful ADR practice. In this course specialised skills will focus on the use of mediation in corporations, organizations, policing, public service settings, and state agencies. Training is targeted to mediators, dispute resolution professionals, managers, administrators, law enforcement and justice officials. Participants will build an understanding of the role of power, gender and culture in conflict, fine tune basic mediation skills and build advanced skills for use in a range of practice areas. Areas of specialisation include training for mediating employee, stakeholder, harassment and human rights conflicts. Participants will have the opportunity to receive one to one coaching and videotape a simulated mediation session with professional actors. Previous training in mediation would be an asset for participants.
