The University of the West Indies will host a lecture entitled “E-Health Developments in Europe” on Wednesday 14th January, 2009. This event will take place at 12:30 p.m. at Amphitheatre B, Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt. Hope. The feature speaker at this presentation is Professor Marc Nyssen.All staff and students are invited to attend.
Biography of Professor Marc Nyssen
Marc Nyssen studied Electrical Engineering at the Free University Brussels and graduated in Electronics in 1975. In 1978, he obtained an Engineering degree in Computer Science and in 1983, a PhD in Electrical Engineering following defense of his thesis "New Architectures for Optoelectronic Signal Processing". He has wide experience in Medical Informatics and is co-founder of the "Belgian Unix systems Users Group" which introduced and ran the EUnet network, Belgium´s first Internet connection.
He represents Belgium in the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering and Computing (IFMBE) and is the co-founder and Secretary General of the Belgian National Committee on Biomedical Engineering within the Belgian Royal Academy of Sciences and Fine Arts.
His interests lie in different aspects of the computerised production lines with emphasis on network communication and image processing related hardware and software system. Medical Internet applications are his second field of interest and expertise. This field is now known as 'E-health' (e.g. the introduction of electronic medical records and the exchange of medical data via the Internet.) His current project is on the introduction of electronic medical prescriptions in Belgium.
