An International Women’s Day Three-Day Conference on ‘Violence against Women’ will be held from Monday 9th March, 2009 to Wednesday 11th March, 2009. This conference is the result of a joint venture between The University of the West Indies (UWI) and The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). The conference will delve into the controversial topic of violence against women and other closely related topics.
On Monday 9th March, 2009 the conference will open with a feature address by The Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Social Development. This will take place at the National Library and Information Systems Authority (NALIS), Hart and Abercrombie Street, Port-of-Spain at 7:00 p.m. The conference continues on Tuesday 10th March, 2009 with presentations from Senator Dana Seethahal, S.C. and UWI Deputy Principal, Professor Rhoda Reddock. This day’s events will take place at UTT-O’Meara Campus, Lots 74-79 O’Meara Industrial Estate, Arima, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
On the final day, Wednesday 11th March, 2009, Dr. Hollis Liverpool and Dr. Sheila Rampersad will kick off the day’s proceedings. This will include panel discussions on ‘The Role of the Family Court’ ‘Gender Based Violence among Teenagers’ and ‘Bearing Witness to Trauma’. This closing segment will also be held at the UTT O’Meara Campus from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
