Continuing Professional Development and Outreach Unit Public Forum Launch

The School of Education will host a Continuing Professional Development and Outreach Unit Public Forum Launch on Tuesday 24th March, 2009. This launch will take place at the Auditorium, School of Education, UWI, St. Augustine Campus, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dr. Avis Glaze, M.Ed. (Ed. Admin), M.Ed. (Guidance) ED.D, will be the feature speaker at this event.

Biography - Dr. Avis Glaze

M.Ed. (Ed. Admin), M.Ed. (Guidance) ED.DDr. Avis Glaze, UWI graduate, is an internationally recognized and acclaimed leader in the field of education and one of Canada’s outstanding educators. She has worked globally as a teacher, administrator, guidance counselor, and in dispute resolution at all levels of the education system. She has been recognized for her work in leadership development, student achievement, school and system improvement, character development and equity of outcomes for all students. As Ontario’s first Chief Student Achievement Officer and founding CEO of the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat, her primary focus in education is on building capacity to ensure equity of outcomes for all students so that they each achieve, regardless of background factors or personal circumstances. Dr. Glaze asserts then that the professional learning of those who work in schools must be a priority and focuses on maximizing the talent of students, teachers and administrators through the development of the knowledge, skills, attitudes and dispositions necessary to create and maintain an informed, literate and caring society. Dr. Glaze is presently a Professor in Residence in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa. She also consults internationally with her company, Edu-quest.
