Summing up the Summit

Following closely on the heels of the 5th Summit of the Americas, experts are set to evaluate and the outcome of this groundbreaking event. This post-mortem is hosted by The University of the West Indies (UWI) and will be carried out on Friday 24th April, 2009, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. at the Institute of International Relations (IIR) Boardroom, UWI, St. Augustine Campus. Experts are expected to engage in a critical reflection on policies and ideas raised during the Summit which was held in Trinidad from April 17th to 19th 2009.

The IIR panel of experts will include Professor Tim Shaw, Director, IIR; Professor Norman Girvan, Professorial research fellow; Visiting Fulbright scholar Dr. David Golberg, and senior lecturers Dr. Mark Kirton and Mr. Anselm Francis. The panellists will delve into the issues surrounding Cuba and Haiti, and the developing relationship between Latin America and the Caribbean. The panel will also discuss the value of consensus vs. unanimity.
