Gender, Water and Ecosystem Management

The Centre for Gender and Development Studies (CGDS) will host a workshop for all researchers and persons involved with water related projects on Wednesday 6th May 2009. The event will be held FSA Conference Room, Ground Floor, Natural Sciences Bldg, UWI, St. Augustine Campus from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The workshop will be chaired by Dr. Frederick Deare.           

                                                                                                                                                                                                                    

The main objectives of the workshop are to:  

1. Create an awareness of the need for incorporating gender into water projects   

2. Gain a greater understanding of gender research methodologies

3. Discuss gender considerations and ensure that they are integrated intovarious stages, from project/programme conception and design, through to evaluation and policy formulation

4. Introduce easy-to-use practical tools by which gender can be systematically incorporated into water projects

 

The Workshop will centre around presentations and discussions on integrating genderinto water research/projects; identifying research gaps in Integrated Water ResourcesManagement in the Caribbean; and practical suggestions on how research on gender can be used in water policy formulation and programme planning. In addition, the Women Gender Water Network (WGWN) and CDGS are part of the Advisory Team for the Royal Bank of Canada Sponsored Blue Water Project in Trinidad — Rainwater Harvesting in Trinidad and Tobago — and will use thid opportunity to futher develop their proposal to ensure that gender is a major component of this project
