Biennial HIV Research Symposium

The Barbados National HIV/AIDS Commission will host the Biennial HIV Research Symposium from December 2nd- 3rd, 2009. The theme for this year's symposium is 'New Directions in HIV Prevention and Control in Barbados'.

Research Papers and Posters are welcomed on the above theme. Presentations should be based on research conducted in accordance with ethical principles, and framed by the principles of human rights and gender equality.  

Priority will be given to research that addresses the priorities and concerns of the National Strategic Plan for HIV Prevention and Control, 2008-2013. Researchers are invited to submit papers on various issues including:

1.    HIV/STI Testing: From VCT to PICT/Rapid Testing and the public response

 

2.    PLHIV: treatment, care, support and 'positive prevention’

3.    New directions in prevention: structural, behavioural, biological and combined interventions

4.    Sexualities, stigma and vulnerability of populations at higher risk: PLHIV, MSM, Sex Workers, prisoners, persons with disabilities, women, youth, children

5.    Monitoring and Evaluation

6.  Programme Management and Coordination.    

Submissions should be based on primary research conducted in Barbados and/or syntheses of research conducted regionally and internationally with emphasis on relevance to the Barbadian context and implications for further research in this country.

Abstracts (under 150 words) with a brief bio and contact details should be submitted to The Director, National HIV/AIDS Commission, 2nd Floor East, Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael or emailed to researchsympo@hiv-aids.gov.bb by September 30, 2009.

Authors of papers selected for the symposium will be invited to give short (15 minute) Power Point presentations, and poster presentations should last no longer than 5 to 8 minutes.
