EdTech Talk – “Using Discussion Forums to Support Student Learning”
Event Date(s): 25/10/2007
Location: Sir Frank Stockdale Building Computer Lab (East Entrance) 2nd Floor, Room 273
Are you considering extending your classroom discussions to meaningful online dialogue but are unsure how to begin? Or, have you ever tried to illicit student participation in your online discussion forums only to be met with surface level responses? If so, join us for our next EdTech Talk session titled, “Using Discussion Forums to Support Student Learning”. Mrs. Pat Worrell, lecturer in the School of Education, will share how she used discussion forums as a tool for student reflection and as a way to build community. By the end of the semester, her student’s postings demonstrated their ability to reflect, think analytically about the topics being discussed, and make connections between their academic work and their professional lives. Following her presentation, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and consider how you can begin using online discussion forums in your course(s). The session is scheduled for Thursday, October 25th, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. in the Sir Frank Stockdale Building Computer Lab (East Entrance, 2nd Floor, Room 273).
