The University of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine Campus, is preparing to host a conference highlighting developmental issues facing the country and the wider Caribbean region in light of the present global economic environment.

Organised by the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Economics, the Conference on the Economy (COTE 09) is open to decision makers, policy makers, technocrats, private sector representatives, academics, students and the general public. COTE 09 will be held at The UWI School of Education Auditorium on October 1st and 2nd, 2009.

Speakers at the conference will include Professor Patrick Watson, Director of the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social & Economic Studies (SALISES) and Professor Dennis A. Pantin, Senior Lecturer, Department of Economics, Sustainable Economic Development Unit (SEDU). Lecturers in the Department of Economics, who will also present, include Dr Lester Henry, Dr Roger Hosein and Mr Gregory Mc Guire. Representatives of other regional universities and agencies are also expected to participate in the conference proceedings.
