Tribute to a Native Son: Dr Bhoe Tewarie screens his Naipaul documentary

"Tribute to a Native Son" is the title of a documentary film on VS Naipaul to be shown at the Institute of Critical Thinking, UWI on September 24 (Republic Day) at 3.00 p.m. This film was produced and directed by Dr. Bhoendradatt Tewarie and is a part of the National Film Festival offerings.

A film in which Naipaul was interviewed by Dr. Tewarie on his life and work was well received by audiences at last year’s film festival. That film has since been shown to audiences at Cave Hill and Mona Campuses of the University of the West Indies, at State University of New York at Albany (USA) and Warwick University (UK). That interview film was entitled “VS Naipaul: Writer and Critical Thinker.”

This second film on Naipaul capitalizes on the author’s last visit to Trinidad in April of 2007 and captures readings by the author, includes statements and answers to questions as well as reflections on aspects of his work; but it also includes interviews with family members and perspectives on Naipaul’s work by academics and critics.

This will be the first public showing of Tribute to a Native Son which was made possible by support from YARA Trinidad Limited. Editing work on the film was done by Michael Granderson.
