CASTING CALL! UWI produces 'Amour, Désamour'

The UWI Department of Liberal Arts hosts a casting call for ‘Amour, Désamour’ on Wednesday 11th January, 2012, from 10 am-6 pm, at the Hyatt Regency, Port-of-Spain.

The producers are looking for women between the ages of 8 and 45 for a variety of roles.

Amour, Désamour is a 90 minute film which is being funded by The University of the West Indies. The docu-fiction, which primarily explores gender and relationships, features fictional scenarios which reflect the experiences of women. The story presents seven (7) female characters from different social, economic and racial groups. The major themes explored in this film include gender, relationships, abuse and sexuality. Throughout the film, there are no men physically present, although they are mentioned and referred to in the movie’s discourse.

The film will be shot and produced entirely within Trinidad and Tobago, and after its completion in March 2012 it will be entered in a variety of film festivals for screening. Through national, regional and international exposure, Amour, Désamour aims to stimulate discussions regarding gender and relationships. It is also hoped that it will be a spring-board for a series of symposiums and workshops focused on the key themes highlighted within the film.

Protagonists:

Aileen - Female, Caucasian, 35 years old Aileen is a wealthy housewife who resides in the upper class West Moorings area. She is married to a wealthy oil executive but emotional conflicts arise from their inability to conceive children.

Claudia - Female, bi-racial/ mixed origin, 40 years old Claudia is a middle-aged woman adjusting to life as a single parent. Her story introduces some of the insecurities a woman might encounter while re-entering the dating world.

Nicole - Female, Afro-Trinidadian, 40-45 years old Nicole is an upper-middle class university professorwhose story examines infidelity. The film follows Nicole as she becomes conscious of the blurring frontiers between her academic discourse and her lived reality.

Priya - Female, East-Indian origin, 20 -25 years of age Priya is a university student from a wealthy family. She challenges her traditional family’s norms by partying, smoking and drinking. Priya’s storyline also focuses on self-discovery and shows her as she explores her sexuality.

Sherada - Female, Syrian-Trinidadian origin, 20-25 years old. Sherada is a university student whose story explores arranged marriages. The film follows Sherada as she begins to question traditional and conservative roles.

Quin - Female, Chinese-Trinidadian descent, teenager (14-16 years old). Quin is a young girl who resides in a modest village where her parents are shopkeepers. Her storyline explores rape and her reaction expressed through both voice and silence.

Supporting Roles:

Quin’s mother - Female, Chinese-Trinidadian descent, 35-40 years of age. Quin’s mother is a doting Chinese-Trinidadian shopkeeper, who is unaware of her daughter’s rape.

Priya’s mother - Female, Indo-Trinidadian descent, 45-50 years of age. Priya’s mother is a caring middle-aged woman who keeps a close eye on her somewhat rebellious daughter

Sherada’s mother - Female, Syrian-Trinidadian descent, 40-45 years of age. Sherada’s mother is a traditional muslim housewife who is eager to find a suitable husband for her daughter.

Ziyad’s mother - Female, Syrian-Trinidadian descent, 45-50 years of age. Ziyad’s mother is a proud parent who is extremely excited to choose an appropriate wife for her son.
