DCFA's UWI Arts Chorale and Steel present Joyful Two

To kick-start the Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA) 30th anniversary celebrations, the UWI Arts Steel and UWI Arts Chorale present Joyful Two – a preview concert of their Belize and Mexico tour taking place July 18 to 28.

 The concert takes place June 25 at 6pm at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Port of Spain. The ensembles will be conducted by Head of DCFA and Senior Lecturer, Jessel Murray.

Look out for vocal performances of Brahms ‘Ziguenerlieder’ (Gypsy Songs), Broadway, folk and calypso songs and pan arrangements of 'Pan in Harmony' and many other melodious selections.

About Joyful Two

Joyful Two is a mélange of performances by the UWI Arts Chorale and Steel – as well as vocal and pan soloists. The Chorale will perform excerpts from the Brahms ‘Ziguenerlieder’ (Gypsy Songs) in the original German language as well as, Broadway selections,  folk and calypso music including Rudder’s ‘Calypso Music’.  The Steel will perform the world premiere of a Jeannine Remy work ‘Overture’ as well as arrangements of ‘Pan in Harmony’  and ‘Ah Feeling ah Feeling’ among others. Together, the Chorale and Steel will take on Mass in G. There will also be pan solos as well as Chorale solos and duos from featured Musical Theatre pieces by Andrew Lloyd Webber and ‘Glitter and Be Gay’ aria from ‘Candide’ sung by soloist Sadie Baxter.

About the Belize and Mexico Tour

The University of the West Indies (UWI) is the largest institution of higher learning in the English-speaking Caribbean with campuses in Trinidad, Barbados, Jamaica, and the Open Campus. Belize is part of the Open Campus system. In Belize, the Chorale and Steel will be hosted by the University of Belize and will perform formal concerts at various locations including that country’s premier concert site: the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts as well as the University of Belize in the capital Belmopan. While at the University of Belize, the two groups will form part of the installation ceremony of Professor Clement Sankat as the President of the University. Professor Sankat is the former Campus Principal of The UWI St. Augustine. In Mexico, the Chorale and Steel have been invited to perform at the Universidad De Quintana Roo (University of Quintana Roo) in Chetumal. Previous tours by the Chorale and Steel have included performances in Barbados, Martinique, Massachusetts, and New York.
