Register now for Confucius Institute's Chinese Language Proficiency Exams

Posted Monday, October 16, 2017

Registration for Chinese Language Proficiency Exams (HSK) at the Confucius Institute is open.

Details are as follows:

About the Test

It is an international standardised exam that tests and rates Chinese language proficiency. It assesses non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives. HSK consists of six levels, namely the HSK (level 1), HSK (level 2), HSK (level 3), HSK (level 4), HSK (level 5), and HSK (level 6).

Exam date

The exam is scheduled to take place on December 3, 2017 at The UWI St. Augustine campus. The specific room will be confirmed at a later date as well as the different times for each exam (which is only available when the CI Headquarters in China sends the examination tickets). We only administer the paper-based exam, not the computer-based test.

Registration

Registration will take place from October 16 to November 6, 2017 at 3pm. For full details, please click this link: http://sta.uwi.edu/confucius/chinese-proficiency-test-hsk.

It is different from typical class registration given that you are required to create an account on the official testing website and register for the exam (www.chinesetest.cn) as well as fill out a form at the Confucius Institute (https://form.jotform.co/60624285943864). There is absolutely NO late registration for the HSK exams. The cut off dates are determined by our headquarters in China. A candidate must follow ALL of the registration steps and pay the test fee before the deadline in order for their name to be submitted as a test candidate. Failure to do will result in your name not being submitted, and thus, you will be unable to sit the exam.

Fees

The test fees vary according to the test level and are located on the website https://sta.uwi.edu/confucius/chinese-proficiency-test-hsk. Fees are payable at the Cashier, UWI Bursary. Collect a payment chit at the Confucius Institute office first. You are required to present your payment receipt to the CI in order to complete your registration. Failure to do so will stall your application process.

Prep classes

There will be some prep class sessions, but they are subject to student demands. These will only be determined after registration is completed.

Minimum candidate number requirement

Please note that a minimum of 10 candidates (across all levels) are required in order to hold the HSK exam. If the minimum quota is not met, the CI reserves the right to cancel the exam.

Refunds

If the exam is cancelled by the CI, a prospective test candidate will receive a full refund. However, test fees become non-refundable by the time your name is submitted to and acknowledged by the CI Headquarters.

For more information, interested persons should email the Confucius Institute at Confucius@sta.uwi.edu.
