The UWI in collaboration with the Guanapo Environmental Community Development Organization (GCEDO) has embarked on a green chemistry project that is funded by the UNDP Global Environment Facility Small Grant Programme (GEF-SGP) called "Advancing Green Technologies through Community Participation and Practical Science Education meeting in the Heights of Guanapo."
This event is hosted by the Department of Chemistry and Faculty of Science and Technology and will take place Friday February 20 from 5-7pm at the Church Parking Lot, Cemetery Street, Heights of Guanapo.
The project is focused on knowledge sharing and science education to empower the Heights of Guanapo community. Residents will be engaged in building a small-scale do-it-yourself aquaponics demonstration system and they will in turn pass knowledge gained to the children of the community in specially designed workshops. These workshops are supported by the NIHERST and the UWI After School Care Centre (ASCC).
The aim of this inaugural community meeting is to introduce the project objectives and to present the project team. Residents will learn how they can participate in the demonstrations planned and will be given the opportunity provide feedback on the demonstration system design.
All are invited and this event is open to the public.
