CETL Workshops: Conceptions of Teaching and Portfolio Development

The Centre for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL) present the following workshops with presenter Henry Paul:

  • April 26 | Conceptions of Teaching and Learning Workshop | 1 to 4.30pm at the Teaching and Learning Complex, Tutorial Room 1 (TLC TR1). To register, please click here.
  • April 27 or April 30 | Teaching Portfolio Development Workshop | 9am to noon at the Teaching and Learning Complex (TLC), Ground Floor, CETL Technology Lab. About Conceptions of Teaching and Learning Workshop

This workshop explores the conceptions of teaching held by higher education lecturers in an attempt to help understand the issues related to 21st century teaching and learning. It explores concepts of teacher-centric and student-centric teaching/learning including the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL).

This workshop is intended to initiate deep conversations among colleagues about teaching and learning in the 21st century. It will broaden your perspectives about conceptions of teaching and learning, and demonstrate how these conceptions impact your practice and students’ learning.

Topics include:

  • Conceptions of teaching and learning
  • The Scholarship of Teaching and the Scholarship for Teaching
  • Naïve and Superior Conceptions of Teaching
  • Narrowing the Gap between Lecturers’ and Students’’ Conceptions of Teaching and Learning

About Teaching Portfolio Development Workshop

The Portfolio Development Workshop focuses on professional development.  The workshop provides you with strategies for determining your teaching philosophy and orientation, as well as how you provide evidence of your teaching effectiveness, within the framework of the teaching portfolio or dossier.

Apart from your general development as a teaching professional the dossier is a necessary instrument for those interested in applying for the 2018 UWI/Guardian Group Premium Teaching Awards.

  • Evidence of Effective Teaching including the integration of technology

Kindly note that parking on the TLC compound is limited.  We recommend use of the vacant lot on Carmody Road which can be used for parking and easy access to the TLC.
