The Department of Computing and Information Technology (DCIT) offers a free Beginner’s Computer Programming workshop with instructor Diana Ragbir-Shripat.
The workshop takes place from August 13 to 30, Monday to Thursday from 4.30 to 7pm and Saturday from 9 to noon at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) Building, Science Lab 2.
Target Audience: UWI Staff or Students; limited space available.
Pre-requisites include: Basic Computer Literacy; UWI Staff or Student must have completed or is currently registered for a tertiary-level programme.
Please note: This workshop is not available to students pursuing degrees in Computer Science or Information Technology.

About the workshop
This workshop provides an introduction for non-programmers to creative computing using the Scratch development environment, and follows a design-based learning. The workshop uses software called The Muse for teaching creativity skills. The Muse is currently a research project and requires your consent for participation. This research has the approval of the UWI Ethics Committee.
Breakdown of workshop:
INTRODUCTION
You will be introduced to creative computing and Scratch.
ARTS
You will create computing projects that include elements of music, design, drawing and dance.
STORIES
You will explore storytelling by creating computing projects that include characters, scenes, and narrative.
GAMES
You will explore games by creating Scratch game projects that define goals and rules.
FINAL PROJECT
You will develop group projects by defining a project to work on, collaborating with others to improve the project, and presenting
