Norman Girvan Library & DSSD host the World Food Day Food Drive

In recognition of World Food Day, The Norman Girvan Library (NGL) at the Institute of International Relations (IIR) is hosting a Food Drive with support from the Division of Student Services and Development (DSSD).

Contribute to students in need by donating food or toiletry item/s at the following locations until October 31:

  • The Norman Girvan Library at the Institute of International Relations
  • The Secretariat at the Institute of International Relations
  • Division of Student Services & Development (DSSD)

(The students have other basic needs that fall in the category of non-food items.  These items will have a separate donation box.)

List of Items for Needy Students

Pantry Items:

Perishable Items

Non-Perishable Items

Bread

Flour

Eggs

Rice

Cheese

Tin Peas/ Split peas/ Lentil peas

Butter

Vienna Sausage

Milk (liquid)

Peanut Butter

Potatoes

Crix or Crackers

Toiletries:

  • Toilet Paper
  • Bathing Soap
  • Deodorant
  • Cream
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Feminine products (sanitary pads, tampons, panty shields)
  • Razors

Please do not donate:

  • Rusted tins.
  • Dented items.
  • Food items past the expiration date OR expiring within 1 month (expiry date MUST exceed 31st October 2018).
  • Unsealed Packets Or packets with openings at the seams.
  • Items with punctures.
  • Any item with weevils
  • Mouldy items.

About World Food Day

World Food Day is celebrated each year on 16 October to commemorate the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1945.  World Food Day is used to promote worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure food security and nutritious diets for all.

World Food Day is a chance to show our commitment to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 – to achieve Zero Hunger by 2030.
